Volunteers of America Northern New England’s 36-unit affordable housing development for older adults at the site of the former AD Gray school is officially underway! The first phase of this project will be the demo of the existing building and abatement of the site, which has already begun and should be complete by late January 2024, with construction of the new facility beginning in late 2024 / early 2025.
About VOLUNTEERS OF AMERICA (VOA)
VOA is the largest non-profit provider of affordable housing in the nation. Here in Maine, VOA owns and operates 11 older adult affordable housing complexes throughout the state. We are proud of the high-quality housing we provide.
VOA believes that everyone is entitled to a welcoming, safe, affordable, place to call home. A place where they can live in a community with their peers. A place that they can be proud of.
VOA’s philosophy is that older adults, who have lived their lives, raised their kids, and had connections to (mostly rural) communities, should be able to stay in their communities as they age. VOA builds affordable housing in local communities so that residents are in familiar places, near the people and the services they know.
Every residence has a manager who oversees the property, on-site maintenance to ensure everything stays tip-top, and a service coordinator who helps the residents navigate the challenges as they get older.
